Peterborough City Hospital

In collaboration with the food service Operator and NHS foundation trust, RDA were appointed to re-imagine this hospital’s large visitor and staff restaurant. Originally constructed 15 years ago, it required a major update to meet the evolving needs of the hospital community. RDA brought the restaurant brand to life with a contemporary colour palette of deep teal and soft pink, enhanced with materials including timber, terrazzo, brass and ceramic tiling. The re-designed servery combined a variety of counters improving circulation and accessibility. And the grab-&-go was consolidated to provide a quick customer journey. With the seating area open 24/7, it needed to suit a diverse range of users. The RDA arrangement cleverly included café-style seating, booths, lounge areas and quieter, private spots. They also provided dedicated staff well-being pods and meeting rooms giving employees their own spaces to relax and recharge. The key addition of a SmartMarket vending area provides round-the-clock access to healthy hot and cold meals, snacks, and drinks, offering flexibility for staff and visitors regardless of the time of day. A first for this hospital. Feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. “The Restaurant is really lovely, like an oasis in a busy hospital environment” shared one Volunteer Coordinator at the hospital. Marketing Manager for the Operator, added, “RDA brought our vision to life, creating a space that feels modern, welcoming, and more than what you'd expect from a hospital restaurant. The team’s attention to detail and open communication allowed us to push boundaries and create something truly special.”
